The EPA Just Approved Two Disinfectant Sprays That Kill COVID-19 on Surfaces — Here's Where to Buy Them Online
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the hunt for products that protect against and, ideally, destroy the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has led to people stripping stores bare or resorting to ill-advised DIY measures to feel safer. In January, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a list of approved cleaning products that were tested and confirmed to kill the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. On Monday July 6, the agency updated the list to include two new products from a familiar brand that have been found to kill the virus on surfaces, based on laboratory testing: Lysol Disinfectant Spray (EPA Reg No. 777-99) and Lysol Disinfectant Max Cover Mist (EPA Reg No. 777-127).
“EPA is committed to identifying new tools and providing accurate and up-to-date information to help the American public protect themselves and their families from the novel coronavirus,” EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said in a statement, referring to the products compiled on List N.
Per their statement, “before pesticide products can legally make claims that they can kill a particular pathogen such as SARS-CoV-2, the claim must be authorized by EPA based on a review of data. Because novel viruses are typically not immediately available for laboratory testing, EPA established guidance for Emerging Viral Pathogens.”
Now a lot of good knowing these cleaners can work to kill the virus if you can’t pick them up. Here’s a few of the places you can pick up the new Lysol products added to the list:
Lysol Disinfectant Spray (EPA Reg No. 777-99)
Lysol Disinfectant Max Cover Mist (EPA Reg No. 777-127)
As always, reminder to be a courteous consumer and not to stock up beyond what you need on products that can help everyone be safer! Don’t be that toilet paper, disinfectant spray hoarder guy — no one likes that guy.
