With sizzling hot temperatures taking over parts of the UK, many Britons are heading to gardens, parks, lidos and beaches to enjoy the sunshine.
However, summertime also offers a sneaky opportunity for getting more than a tan.
Worryingly, even with sun cream on, you can still burn, especially if you spend too much time in the sun.
While it’s crucial to protect your skin with sunscreen and re-apply it during the day, one food could help those who sustained a sunburn.
What’s more, a nutritionist explained that this “secret” remedy is probably already hiding in your fridge.

Characterised by sweet yet tart taste, blueberries offer more than an enjoyable snack.
Packed with antioxidants and vitamin C, the small fruits could help heal sun damage.
Leading nutritionist, Rob Hobson, who is working with British blueberry grower Hall Hunter, said: “British blueberries are rich in natural antioxidant compounds called anthocyanins which gives them their blue colour.

“Exposure to UV light from the sun can increase the production of free radicals which over time can contribute to increased skin ageing.
“Vitamin C is also an antioxidant and important for good skin health as it is used to make collagen which helps skin to retain its elasticity.
“A diet rich in antioxidants may help to reduce the damage caused by UV light.”

Apart from easing the achy souvenir from a sunny day, blueberries could also help hydrate you.
Hobson added: “Hydration is also crucial in blistering heat and is important for relieving symptoms of sunburn and re-hydrating skin.
“Made up of 85 percent water, British blueberries can help hydrate us, making them the perfect snack to enjoy whilst out in the sunshine.”
