High blood pressure warning – the feeling on your face that could cause ‘sudden death’

High blood pressure is a common condition that affects more than a quarter of all adults in the UK. The condition, which is also known as hypertension, puts extra stress on blood vessels and vital organs. You could be at risk of high blood pressure if you eat an unhealthy diet, or if you don’t do enough exercise. A common sign of deadly hypertension is having a feeling of weakness on your face, it’s been revealed.

Called the ‘silent killer’, hypertension rarely produces overt symptoms

You could be at risk of high blood pressure if your face feels numb, according to medical website LiveStrong.

The feeling, which has also been likened to a general feeling of weakness, most commonly affects just one side of the face at any one time.

You should speak to a doctor if you develop the sensation in your face, as it could be caused by a deadly hypertensive emergency.

“Called the ‘silent killer’, hypertension rarely produces overt symptoms and can be deadly if left uncontrolled,” said the medical website.

“When not controlled blood pressure levels can rise to the point that you start to experience physical symptoms.

“Some of the symptoms are nonspecific and may be overlooked as being a byproduct of some less serious condition or external cause.

“These symptoms can worsen acutely and in some cases result in sudden death.

“You should seek immediate assistance from a health care professional if you’re experiencing trouble speaking or understanding speech, numbness or tingling in your hands and feet, weakness or numbness of your face or one side of the body or a severe headache from an unknown cause.”

You could also be at risk of a hypertensive emergency if you develop muscle tremors, or have a sudden fall, it added.

If you’ve already been diagnosed with high blood pressure, and develop any of these symptoms, you should speak to a doctor straight away.

Natural ways to lower blood pressure

A hypertensive crisis is where your blood pressure raises to dangerously high levels, and it can be life-threatening.

Any blood pressure above 180/120mmHg could permanently damage your blood vessels, and they may subsequently start leaking fluid.

Many people may be living with high blood pressure without even knowing it, as the symptoms only tend to reveal themselves if you have extremely high blood pressure.

The most common high blood pressure symptoms include headaches, finding blood in your urine, and having a pounding in your chest.

It’s crucial that all adults over 40 years old check their blood pressure at least once every five years.
